Learn about the 24th Annual Great Northern Concrete Toboggan Race (GNCTR), which was held in Alberta February 48, 1998. The University of Calgary Civil Engineers hosts GNCTR, which welcomes students from Canadian, American, and international technical colleges and universities. Teams of students build toboggans with concrete running surfaces and present a paper on the sleds design. Each toboggan carries five students down a snow-packed track. The race is a timed run on a relatively straight course. Prizes are awarded for overall performance, highest speed, shortest stopping distance, best concrete design mix, best team costumes, best team spirit, best newcomer, and more.
This sled factory is a registered historic landmark in Pennsylvania, and admission to the Sled Museum is free. The Old Sled Works was once the home of Standard Novelty Works, one of the busiest and best-known makers of childrens sleds in the country, including Lightning Guider sleds. The museum displays sleds from each decade of operation (some rare), old catalogs and other advertising pieces, patent and trademark papers, tools, early printing and stenciling equipment, and the original sled factory time clock.
